Not So Proud Mothering Moment

In the 10 years that I have been a mother, I only have one moment that really sticks out in my mind as a bad mothering moment, it involved Skyler as a baby. Well, today is my second moment and it too involves Skyler.

For the last three weeks Skyler has not been well. He has had a terrible cough, very tired, chills, fever off and on, headaches, shortness of breath, and just a basically overall lousy feeling. But somedays he seems fairly good, not great, but good. Two weekends ago he had a soccer tournament and he DID NOT feel well or perform well. He kept asking his coach to take him out and then would hardly even play, some games he didn't even play the second half. I was so frustrated with him and I told him he needed to suck it up and commit to his team. He wasn't allowed to ask the coach to take him out, or even look at the coach as a hint to take him out. So he didn't and palayed the rest of his games without complaining(even though it was 102 degrees outside)and that was the end of that.

Well, another week has passed and he is just getting worse. I noticed on Monday that he was looking mighty thin. Finally he said, mom please take me to the doctor, I cannot stand being sick anymore. Well today was the doctors appointment and here is the reason for my bad mothering moment from the soccer tournament......he has walking pneumonia!! Yup, that right, he is totally sick and I made him play in the crazy heat and told him to stop whining and complaining. He has lost 6 pounds( and for Sklyer that now puts him weighing in at 59 pounds, and yes, he is 10!)! The doctor said to get him on these antibiotics and keep him down for another week. No soccer until HE feels up to it:)

So there you go. I hate having moments like that, the ones you just wish you could take back. I want to know the stories you guys have for those who feel like commenting. Please make me feel better about myself, so that I know I'm not the only one:)

  1. I'm glad you finally figured out what was wrong. Poor guy!

Do you remember my Loser Mom of the Day past back in February... i totally forgot about Valentine's day parties at school. I remembered for McKenna that morning, because she called from school asking about a box, and then I remembered she was also supposed to bring something for a craft...and then about 10:00am it occured to me that if McKenna was having a Valentine's Party, Trevor would be too! I felt like such a bad mom! I spent the next hour in the parking lot at the school filling out cards for the kids.

  2. I think we all have these moments as mom's. I have had mine for sure! But we have to remember we're not perfect. And pnemonia can be hard to recognize. You are not a bad mom, I know you are a great mom! My hubby came down with pnemonia a couple weeks ago and is still recovering. Most times you don't know you have it until you go in to the Doctor! Poor guy! Hope he gets well soon!

  3. Lets see, Hudson falling out of the shopping cart, Hudson getting burned on flat iron...oh and Hudson getting burned on grill. There are too many to count. The latest one....walking out of Red Robin with Hudson behind me, starting to daydream as we cross the road, and Hudson almost getting hit by a car because I was in la la land. Enough said :)
