First Broken Bone Ever

I have been a mom now for 12 years and I have never had a kid with a broken bone...ok...not quite true...as an 18 month old Skyler had a "green-stick"collar bone fracture, but they did nothing other than say..be gentle.

Last night Nathan and his cousins were swinging on the swings and jumping out of the swings...like all kids do...I was watching them and said, before you leave(to my sister) one of these kids is going to break a bone. About 30 minutes after I said those words, Nathan comes in the house holding his arm and says...Mom, I broke my arm! All kids always say that, so I didn't think much of it...but when I moved his hand and looked and his arm...OMG...he broke his arm. I looked at Ryan and freaking out...said...he really broke his arm...

Ryan jumps into action and says to me...go and grab me a magazine. I grabbed the first magazine I could find...The Ensign..and he wrapped that around Nathan's arm. We jumped into the car and drove him to the emergency room.

He broke both the Radius and the Ulna in his left arm. It looks so distorted it was crazy. They had to finish breaking that second bone, before they could set his arm.

They started an iv on him so they could give him some morphine..so glad they did. He calmed down so much and was able to endure the x-ray.

They put him to sleep to set the bone. It was pretty crazy, because he moaned, cried and jumped around while they were setting the bone, but he has no recollection of the event. He actually woke up out of the medicine and said...Man that WAS fast.

Pretty cute little boy..I just feel bad that he will miss out on the swimming and fun this saturday.

Drew was so upset and cried for quite some time that his brother was hurt...luckily all is well...

  1. When it rains it pours huh? That would totally freak me right out, it was a little freaky to look at just now. I can't imagine in person. I like their ute shirts though! Tell Nicole hi for us.
